“Never underestimate those who follow you. You will be amazed at what your followers can accomplish if they are properly led."

Reflecting on a quote contributed by Bob Takao for Lead Forward's Words To Lead By

In 1944, Dwight Eisenhower commanded the largest military operation in history. Yet he knew that the success of D Day would not rest on his own skill alone; it would depend upon thousands of ordinary people: soldiers, engineers, medics, pilots, and planners, each doing their part with precision and courage. And he trusted them deeply. His confidence in the people he led ran across a sense of purpose for the entire mission. The victory did not come from one leader; it came from thousands who rose because someone believed in their ability.

That carries over into everyday leadership as well. People often grow into what a leader believes they can become. Whenever you trust others with meaningful roles, they usually rise higher than you would think. When you limit people or take control of everything yourself, they stop trying. Imagine working on a team project. The leader may do all of the work and quickly finish, but the rest of the group learns very little. A leader giving roles, encouraging creativity, and checking-in with support allows everyone to contribute. The project is stronger because more people feel ownership.

Leadership is not about doing everything yourself. It's about creating an environment where others can succeed. When you trust people, they surprise you. When you guide without controlling, you help them grow. When you show belief in their ability, you give them confidence to act boldly. A leader's greatest strength is often the power to lift others.
